Nostalgia I’d rather have avoided

Posted by Oli on Sunday 13th January, 2008

So here I am with my butt parked in the very same room I was sat in almost precisely 8 weeks ago waiting to be told my life was about to change forever.

Thanks to the wonders of the now famous (or is that infamous) Norovirus, F-East ward of HAREFIELD beckons again. I don’t remember my last visit here being quite so deeply involved with vomit and isolation, but there’s a weird sense of calm and good omens that comes with being back where my journey began two months ago.

As it happens I don’t think I’ll be here much longer – I was admitted yesterday mainly so that they could give me IV fluids through a drip to replace all the stuff my stomach was resolutely rejecting and sending back out from whence it came, and also to give me my immunosuppression IV as well since there was no chance of me absorbing the oral pills.

I’ve a bit of an infection rearing its head in my chest, but that’s much to be expected when I get knocked back at the mo, and should be easily sorted by a short course of antibiotics which shouldn’t keep me in here.

K has written a nice pleading note to the docs in Scrabble tiles (we couldn’t find any paper) so I’m sure doc C is going to be convince by her superior medical knowledge and eject me straight from his rounds in the morning.

Watch this space, I guess…

    Dear Oli,
Poor you, I’m feeling really sorry for you. I had the hideous Norvirus a couple of years ago and it is WICKED, and not in a good way. I’m guessing that you’ve been more affected than I was, so my sympathy overfloweth. Really praying that they don’t keep you there too long and that the bug goes quickly.Thankyou to Kati for the card that you sent… Love from Anna and Warren x x x

Crap! (Sorry, that’s only 8 points on the Scrabble board unless you hit a bonus square). Hang in there, Oli!

Oh, eugh. Poor old you – it’s a good thing your stitches had a chance to heal before you started honking, I suppose. At least it’s a short-lived virus, but it’s very nasty; try to keep your chin up (when it’s not pointed into a bucket).

Hi oli, well the only benefit of you being in the harefield was that I got to meet you after months of following your blog. It was great to meet you and altho that was my 8th call for a tx that didn’t go ahead it was fab seeing you looking so well and it helped my feel more positive, so thanks for the chat. Hoping you are out soon and today wasn’t too boring! Clair

Hey Oli, bummer your in hosp again. Sounds like you’re doing ok if you think you’ll be back out soon. Was so great to see you at home in the flat, chatting away looking so well (and giving me good advice too!)

By the way, the laptop didn’t turn up 😦 But I didn’t waste time waiting for the insurance to pay out, went out with the company credit card and got a new one yesterday! Hope the insurance comes through or I’ll have to be very nice to the other partners!!

See you back at home soon, or maybe out somewhere? I saw I am Legend and thought it was great too. Maybe we’ll catch a film sometime?

    Lots of love
